Zeke stopped dead when his eyes fell into the usually comfy living room. Various boxes and bags, an old sled, a wooden reindeer family, garlands, chains of lights scattered all over the floor. „Ähm...what's going on here,“ he asked. „Did I miss something?“
Casey looked up from the box in front of him with a slightly embarrassed gesture while Jason jumped up, throwing his arms around his dad. „It's Christmas. Look what we found in the attic.“
„Jupp, I see.“ Zeke smirked. „But it's still October; maybe this is a tiny bit early for Santa Clause?“
„Oh!“ Jason looked disappointed, but Casey shrugged. „Actually I was looking for my grandma's old cooking books; I am sure I stored them somewhere in the attic when we moved in here.
Then I stumbled over her old snowman. Sadly some parts are broken, but I thought you might be able to repair them before Christmas. With some lights, it would look so great on the porch.“
Zeke didn't hide his grin any longer. „Lemme guess. You brought it down here, and then you got overwhelmed by the Christmas feeling?“
„Well, my mom says you can never start too early with the preparations. The house and garden decoration take a lot of time, baking cookies...“ He winked at Jason, who giggled excitedly. „The planning of the Christmas dinner. I've thought about it. This is our first year in the new house, with Jason and Marie, maybe we should invite my parents over this year. What do you think?“
Laughing, Zeke pulled him into his arms to place a fleetingly kiss on his nose. „Whatever makes you happy, geek boy. Go wild.“ He knew it would take some time until life in their house would be back to normal again, but to be honest, he didn't care. Living together with Casey and two wonderful children was always an adventure.
