Casey flashed a glance at Zeke before turning back to their son. The little boy was lying on the couch, his face still deep-red. „Guess we have to cancel the party,“ he murmured.
„No! I'm not sick anymore,“ Jason protested.
Zeke placed a finger on his temple. „Sorry, but you still have a fever. A party this weekend is out of the question. It was close to pneumonia; you need a lot of rest.“
As expected, tears started to flow. „That's not fair! It's my10th birthday. I can't be sick!“
„Hm. Remember why you got sick? It was not the best idea to sneak out in the middle of the night when it's raining cats and dogs.“
Jason sniffed. „I know, and I am sorry. But I wanted to see the baby owls.“
„Well, next time, you better talk with us before. You gave us quite a scare,“ Casey said, grabbing for his hand. „But hey, chin up. When the fever is down until Saturday, I guess at least grandma and grandpa could come by for some cake. And we can postpone the party to summer, maybe make it an overnight camping adventure. How does this sound?“
