Paris was the city she had always dreamed about. Three years ago, when she started working here at one of the most famous fashion studios without knowing more of the French language than 'oui,' 'non', and 'merci', it felt as if the world was her oyster.
Emily pulled her knees up on the chair, her eyes wandering over the city's golden silhouette. She loved these moments when she was sitting on her cozy roof terrace, a glass of red wine in her hands, watching the sundown. During this hour, she usually was able to leave everything behind.
Today, though, it was different. There was this offer to go to Rome for some months, maybe even a year, to help start a new fashion line for Sylvie Grateau. What a chance!
But there was her life in Paris, which she enjoyed so much, and good friends who had always been there for her during the last years whenever she needed them. There was Alfie; even if they had finally decided to go separate ways for a while, a part of her still loved him. Alfie was the most sympathetic, most affectionate guy she had ever met.
But there was Gabriel, too. Maybe not so sympathetic, so affectionate, but so good-looking, so funny, so passionate. She had always known that losing her heart to him was not smart. Because he was engaged to Camille. A woman who had turned out to be a good friend. Emily had tried to fight her feelings; had never wanted to hurt Camille.
But it had happened again. The night had been beyond words, and when Gabriel had put his arms around her in the morning, telling her that he finally felt ready for a decision, she had left all her guilty feelings behind and just felt happy.
Until the phone call from Camille. „You won't believe it... I am pregnant!“
Emily put her glass back on the small side table and sighed. Knowing that her heart would always belong to Paris and the people she had learned to love. But Rome was the only right decision.
