„Hey, geek boy. What's wrong?“

„Hm?“ Slightly frowning, Casey looked up. The last he had expected to see here today was Zeke Tyler. The rebel from school who only followed his own rules; who didn't care about homework and tests. Secretly, Casey had sometimes envied him for his freedom and popularity.

„You look as if your grades are miserable, but I can't believe that.“

Casey shrugged. „Besides, the F in gym they are okay. A and B across the board; an A+ in physics.“

„And this is a drama?“ Zeke smirked when the boy pulled his face. „One should think you are proud of it to be one of the best in class. You are going to college after summer?“

„MIT. Astronomy and Space Technology.“

„This sounds great. Congratulations. I always knew you are so much more than a photogeek.“

„But maybe it is so much easier to be a photogeek at highschool. I don't want to disappoint my parents by failing at college; after all they did to get me in there.“

„Casey!“ Zeke chuckled and put his arm around the boy's shoulder. „It's about time to start believing in yourself. I am sure you will rock it!“

Casey stared at him, frowning. „Why do you actually care? You never took any notice of me at school.“

Zeke kept quiet; probably this was not the best time to tell him that he always had an eye on him during the last months. Since the incident with Mary Beth- even if most would remember this night when an alien queen had tried to take over Herrington High only vaguely, he would never forget that Casey had been the one who had saved all of them. He was a secret hero, and one of the most interesting guys Zeke had ever met.

„Maybe it's about time to change this,“ he finally said. „What about a trip to Annie's milkbar? I know you love her chocolate muffins.“

Feeling worn out, Sookie closed her eyes. After all that had happened during the last weeks, all she wanted was some peace. At least for one night, for some hours.

Was this too much to ask? Sleeping without the voices in her head; without blood and dead and tears; without a nightmare tormenting her. And in the morning she would wake up, feeling strong enough to face the next day. Tomorrow!

The knocking at the door got louder. „Sookie! I know you are in there.“ Jason's haunted voice. „Open the door, we need to talk!“ A tiny moment of silence when she dared to hope that he was gone. „Sooks, god damned! I need you!“

And she gave in; he was her brother, the last one left from her family, how could she leave him alone when he obviously was so desperate?
