Jenny closed the door of her trailer and dropped down on the old couch. The last hours had churned her up more than she had thought.

It was not the discovery of the young girl's corps at the beach; she had seen worse during her time working as a coroner of Toronto. But it made her realize that maybe it was time to face reality; one couldn't escape the cruelty of life forever. David was dead, Liam was dead, too. But her son was still alive, and her father needed her, too.

Time to go back to her old life.

Jenny opened her eyes only reluctantly. Her body felt stiff; she was shivering with cold. It took her a while to realize she was lying on the garage's cement floor; it was pitch dark around her, only a faint moonlight falling through the tiny window next to the door.

Weakly, she struggled on her feet, looking for hold of the old shelf with rusty tools and half-empty buckets of paint. Embracing herself with both arms to warm up a bit while she tried to sort out her mind.

It had happened again. She did walk here in her sleep, chased by the last case she had been working on for a week already. Nothing seemed to fit together, and each new awareness raised even more questions. But tonight, she had seen the truth in her much too lively dreams.

She licked her dry lips, forced herself to ignore the beginning headache. If she gathered all her strength, she would make it back to the house. She needed to call Detective McAvoy; he would be annoyed when she called him in the middle of the night, but there was no other way. In the morning, her newly found body of evidence would be vanished into thin air again.
