Prompt: black
Finished: 02.02.2022

„Oh God, oh, God, oh God.“ David dropped down on his bed, covering his face with both hands.

Patrick watched him, slightly amused. „Anything wrong?“

„Everything. I can't decide what to wear tonight.“

„Well, it's not a gala dinner, only a small club in Brantford. I guess black jeans and a fitting pullover will do it. Maybe the one with the silver emblem.“

Looking shocked, David shook his head. „No! I did wear it the last time I was in a club. Someone might notice this. Think, I am broke.“

Patrick couldn't hide his amused smile. „This is how long ago? Two years?“

„Two years, four months, and five days. Right before we had to move here. I used to visit exclusive clubs every weekend and...“

„You always were the king of the club,“ Patrick ended the sentence. „No need to worry, I am sure you still will be. No matter what you are wearing.“

David was not convinced; he kneaded the pullover in his hands, sighing deeply. „Maybe we will better stay here.“

„Why not? Another weekend, spent with Alexis and your parents; and maybe even Roland will join us for a beer or two.“ Patrick bent forward to place a kiss on David's lips. „Or perhaps we could do a bit of shopping this afternoon.“

„Shopping? In Schitt's Creek?“

„Well, it's not Gucci or Dolce & Gabbana, but I promise you will feel like a new guy afterward. Ready for the adventure?“

David eyed his lover thoughtfully; the bright jeans, the light blue shirt. Yes, he looked good in this, but... „Nothing blue,“ he said. „Or green. Or...“ He shuddered visibly. „...red. I am not a clown.“

Patrick laughed. „Of course not. A plain, black shirt with a touch of white will look perfect on you.“

Title: Cinnamon cookies
Character: Jess O'Brien, David Peck
Word Count: 253
Prompt: cinnamon and nutmeg
Finished: 06.12.2021

„Mmmhhh, this smells delicious.“ Jess entered her Bed and Breakfast guestroom, where David was already busy in the open kitchen area.

Smiling, he turned around, pointing at the baking tray on the corner. „I wanted to try something new. Cookies with cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg. A recipe from an old Christmas cooking book I found at Bree's bookshop.“

Jess stepped closer to steel one of the delicacy, still warm and soft. „Oh, it's perfect. Our guests will love them. Maybe we could make some giveaway bags for Christmas Eve.“

David pulled her into his arms, placing a kiss on her head. „Sounds good; I still have more of them in the oven.“

„You don't regret it, do you?“ She had to know, even if maybe his answer could ruin this wonderful morning. „That you didn't go home this weekend?“

„Not for a second,“ he reassured her. „The Christmas parties of my parents are famous, exclusive, expensive. But you won't find the true meaning of Christmas anywhere.“

He looked around in the homely decorated room. „I never realized how much I did miss all this. Old traditions, handmade gifts for the family, cutting down the Christmas tree in the woods. Baking cookies with cinnamon and nutmeg.“ He let his finger wander over her face. „Jess O'Brien, I am thankful that I am allowed to be here, with you and your family, to celebrate Christmas like I never did before.“

She smiled relieved. „Okay. I just wanted to be sure.“

Title: Living with his nightmares
Character: Mr. Smith, Rose Smith
Word Count: 295
Prompt: Any/Any/“What is it?” “Something’s wrong. I don’t know what. I just feel it.” (FallintoFall) and Rose (100Ships)
Finished: 01.11.2021

:::

„Daddy, wait!“ Rose grabbed for Smith's arm when he wanted to open the door to the old shed.

He squeezed her small hand reassuring. „There is nothing to worry about. I was here several times already; I know, it doesn't look very comfortable, but it's warm inside and it will offer us shelter from the upcoming storm.“

But Rose shook her head. „Something is wrong. I don't know what. But I can feel a danger.“

At her words, uneasiness was rushing through his body. He wanted to believe that it was only the fantasy of a little girl, but he did remember all too well this night, some weeks ago, when he had saved Kurdy's life. A peaceful night, no sign of any danger. Until he had felt that something horrible would happen; his instincts had told him to run but the voice in his head had gotten loud and louder.

No, he didn't regret that he had saved Kurdy; Kurdy was a good guy. But his life had changed in this night. The voice was a part of him now, and the things he felt and saw sometimes were hard to endure.

He looked down at his daughter and when he noticed the open panic in her eyes he knew he had to make a decision. „Okay,“ he said. „I guess we can make it to the Mountain before the storm breaks out with full force. A friend of mine is living there. Kurdy. You will like him.“

Her relief was so highly visible that Smith couldn't hide his smile. Even if spending time at the former subterraneous military laboratory would probably bring him even more nightmares, as long as Rose would find some peaceful rest, he was willing to deal with it.

Title: Golden eyes
Character: Casey Connor, Gabe Santora
Word Count: 626
Prompt: Forgiveness (FFFC), golden (100 Ships), "Don't talk with me..." (FallintoFall)
Finished: 21.10.2021

:::

Casey put his camera down when his eyes fell on Gabe. He was sitting on the bleachers alone, which was kinda strange. Already during the last weeks, Casey had noticed it that he didn't seem to be in best form. While most of the other students long were back to their former selves.

Casey grabbed for his backpack and stepped down the stairs. None of his business; the coach, his friends from the team, or the cheerleader might be there for Gabe; not he, Casey, the boy he had bullied for years. But he couldn't help it, when he reached the bench, Gabe was still sitting there, staring into nowhere, his helmet carelessly discarded onto the ground, he stopped. „This was a great game tonight,“ he said.

The brawny football player winced. “Don't talk with me; the others might think we are friends.“ But his voice was low and tired, not as mockingly and mean as before.

„The others don't pay any attention,“ Casey answered, looking at the group of players who celebrated their victory together with some of the cheerleaders. "Why aren't you with them anyway?"

„Maybe I will quit the team.“

„What?!“

„You heard me. I don't think that I can do this any longer.“

„Did you already talk with coach Willis? You are his number one!“

Gabe shuddered visibly. „He... he gives me the creeps. I can't get out of my head what he has done. With me. With the others.“ He pulled his face. „Everyone tells me to move on; leave this night behind. But I am still dreaming about it every night.“

Casey breathed in deeply; it was a surprise that Gabe, of all students, felt like this, the cool, arrogant star player of the Hornets who always had things under control. But yes, he could feel with him. „I guess a lot of us do, even if they don't talk about it. I too,“ he admitted.

„You?!“ Gabe jerked around, grabbing for his collar, his dark eyes suddenly filled with anger. „You don't know what I am talking about. Everyone might call you a hero because you killed her. But you were the only one at school not infected. So, how can you know how it feels to be controlled by a fucking alien?“

„You think it was easy to kill her,“ Casey whispered, „I have seen her, not Marybeth, but her true self. A monster, covered in a slimy, stinky mass, and her outcries were vibrating through my body. Her eyes were golden, glowering, piercing. This was the worst. With these eyes, she was able to dive right into my head.“ He squeezed his eyes shut to escape the tormenting memories, all in vain. „Our thoughts were melting into each other, and I felt her hate; she wanted me to kill. Eliminate all humankind. And I was like paralyzed, unable to think clearly.“ He licked his dry lips. „It was pretty close, I guess; I am not the hero who stood up against an alien to save the world. It was just blind luck that I managed it to place a pen with scat into her eye.“

„I didn't know that.“ Gabe's muted voice reached his ears like through a haze.

„No one knows; for what would it be good for? The nightmare is over; everyone just wants to move on like before.“ A faint smile sneaked onto his lips. „And to be honest: it feels nice not to be the school's geek anymore everyone uses to fuck around with.“

Suddenly Gabe looked burdened with a guild. „Sorry,“ he murmured,“ for being such an asshole all the time.“

Casey shrugged.“At least it has taught me to follow my instincts when it comes to escaping a hopeless situation,“ he said. "Come on, let's go to the others." He held out his hand to Gabe; the football player hesitated only shortly before he grabbed for it.

Title: Brothers
Character: Loki, Thor
Word Count: 177
Prompts: punch for 100 Ships; brothers for FFFC (as 3-sentence-version)
Finished: 09.10.2021

:::

Satisfied smiling, Loki looked down at Thor. He wanted to enjoy it, to see him in this miserable state, after he had surprisingly been able to gain the upper hand for a split of a second and to punch him right into his face. The always beloved, good son of his parents, the king of Asgard; people even called him a god.

He, Loki, had wondered for so long why no one seemed to feel for him like everybody felt for Thor until he did find out the truth. He narrowed his eyes, tried to remember how much he hated Thor for being the legitimate son of Odin while he was only an adopted nobody, but in the end, the love gained the upper hand, and he stretched out his hand to help his brother up.
