„Link?“ He needed a moment to recognize her voice. „Link! It's time. You need to go!“

Reluctantly, he opened his eyes, returning to reality. As much as he would have liked to stay in his newly discovered memory. A memory that brought pain and loss, but so much better than the emptiness in his mind.

It had been scary to wake up after countless years of sleep without any knowledge of what had happened to bring him here, to the Shrine of Resurrection. Only driven by his instincts had he started his way, which finally had led him here, to the spring of power.

The memory hit him out of the blue, tearing him back hundreds of years, back to a beautiful sunny day. But the shadow of Ganon had already started to grow, and soon enough, war would rule the world.

A hundred years ago, the people he could remember were dead. But he was still here, Link, the knight of Hyrule, ready to stand up against the evil again.

Link breathed in shakingly. „And they are gone,“ he whispered.

„It was about time.“ Zelda's voice calm as ever, despite the tears running over her face. „Too many years they have suffered. Now they can rest in peace.“ She grabbed his hand, interlacing their fingers. „Thanks to you. Hyrule can start to look forward again.“

His eyes rested on the ruins before them, and he couldn't feel anything but a deep sadness. Yes, the burning hot flames were extinct, the growling thunder had stopped, but where was the noble castle of Hyrule, which he could finally remember again? All the beauty gone, faded away already a hundred years ago. Like everyone he had known, he had loved once.

He felt Zelda's fingers squeezing his hand. Everyone but her. The princess of Hyrule; the princess of a long-gone world. But when he finally dared to look at her, he noticed a smile behind the tears.

„We will build Hyrule again,“ she said. „We will reunite all the people and make the world a beautiful and peaceful place again. Like my father always wanted it to be.“
