Mr. Brown looked up from the photos in front of him. „Have you ever thought about going to the Institute of Photography,“ he asked. "This would be the right place for you."
A faint smile showed up on Casey's face. „Thank you. But I guess this is impossible.“
„Impossible is a word you shouldn't even think about,“ his teacher answered. „You are so talented; wasting your time at a city college would be a shame. What's the problem?“
Casey hesitated. „It's not about talent,“ he finally admitted. „But since my dad got sick last year and eventually lost his job... My parents scrape all their savings together to send me to college. But New York is much too expensive.“
„Oh. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. But this shouldn't be a reason to ruin your future. In cases like this, there is charitable support; I guess it should even be possible for you to get a full scholarship. You shouldn't give up so easily.“
„A full scholarship?“ Unable to hide his excitement, Casey beamed. „You think I am good enough for that?“
„Even better.“ Mr. Brown smiled. „I admit, I'm only a medium-talented art teacher at Highschool, but I did send some of your works to a friend in New York. I hope you can forgive me, that I didn't ask for permission at first, but I didn't want to raise false hopes.
He works for the Institute of Photography and thinks a talent like yours is rare. With a good education, you can make it to the top one day.“
„Woah!“ Casey licked his dry lips. „This is... woah.“
„It's still a while to make a final decision,“ Mr. Brown said. „Think about it. Talk with your parents. And when you need my help, you know where to find me.“
