Title: Standing up
Character: Samantha LaRusso
Word Count: 136
Prompt: up
Finished: 24.4.2021

Sam was lying on the ground, her arm puckering without pause; she could feel blood running over her hand; in a mixture of shock and pain, she closed her eyes. Already as a little girl, she had loved karate, had taken in every word her father had told her. „Karate is not about fighting up to the end to destroy your opponent,“ he had told her, „it's about winning with respect and honor,“ and she did believe him, up to today.

The fight at school with the students of the Cobra Kai Dojo had nothing to do with sportsmanship; it was brutal and merciless; she had noticed hate in Tory's eyes when she had attacked her, and instinctively she had known that the one who would break down first would not get up so easily again.

Title: Ghosts from the past
Character: John Kreese
Word Count: 162
Prompt: ghost
Finished: 24.4.2021

It wasn't so easy to get rid of the ghosts from your past, Kreese had learned this on the hard way; when he did come back from Vietnam has old life had been gone forever, replaced by a neverending nightmare about all he had seen and done. He never talked about it, refused to accept any help, only felt pity with these pathic idiots who thought that support groups could change anything.

He was alone, all alone, but he had learned to survive; stoke hard, strike first, no mercy, this was what his colonel had taught them once; not all of them had listened, and a lot of them had paid with their lives; no so he, John Kreese; he had survived the cruel months of war captivity, and he would not let it happen that the ghosts of his past would take over his life now; he would fight them, and he would win, because to win was the only option.

When he died about a year ago, it had taken a long while until he had been ready to accept it that his grief would never go away completely, but with the help of Amanda and his two wonderful children, he finally had learned to move on.

Until his life came apart at the seams during the last months and he finally had to face the ruin of all that meant so much to him; it had almost broken him, almost, but suddenly he had known that there was only one way out of this misery: going back to the roots, to Okinawa.
