Title: Unexpected reunion
Character: Rhett Butler, Scarlett O'Hara
Word Count: 235
Prompt: mint
Finished: 08.08.2021
:::
Rhett let his eyes wander over the paddock; lots of noble horses, but not the one he was looking for. Then it happened. First, hushed laughter reached his ear, and when he instinctively turned around, he saw her. For a split second, his heart stopped beating.
The last he had expected to meet here, at a horse auction in Ireland. Her mint green dress was sparkling in the bright sunlight while she turned her head to and fro, vividly talking with two of the landowner.
Rhett watched her for a while and couldn't help but smile. As if she hadn't changed since he had seen her the first time at Twelve Oaks. Almost twenty years older, yes, her laughter not as unburdened; she had seen too much, too much pain she had to go through. But he had always admired her strength; nothing could break her; she would always stand up again and move on. She could still flirt like the fifteen-year-old girl and cast a spell over every guy.
As well as him. He had left her once because he couldn't endure it any longer to live with her. But to meet her again so totally unexpectedly reminded him how much he still loved her.
Suddenly she seemed to notice his eyes resting on her, and she turned around. He could see the surprise running over her face and greeted her with a nod.
