Title: Like a nightmare
Characters: Mr. Smith, Kurdy Malloy
Prompts: church
Word Count: 179
Finished: 01.08.2020
:::
It was icy cold, cold and dark. Only some light and warmth fall through the broken stained glass of the small windows into the old church. Shuddering Smith pulled his coat closer around his body while reluctantly following his partner down the central corridor.
Yes, they had been at more scaring places before, but the urge to turn around and run increased with every step. When they finally reached the altar, it happened. Nightmarelike pictures crossed his mind – he could see himself cowering on the stony ground. Someone was whispering in the dark; the flickering light of a candle fall onto a face of... before he could recognize it, a loud explosion. An outcry... and his hands covered with blood.
Panicridden Smith gasped for air, and Kurdy turned around to him. „Hey, you okay?“
He licked his dry lips, unable to answer. The urge to escape was bigger than anything; shaking all over, he took flight, stumbled down the hall, reached the big doors, and broke down in the warm, bright sunlight.
Finally, he could breathe again.
