Title: Growing up a child is never easy
Characters: Zeke Tyler, Casey Connor
Prompt: forfeit
Word Count: 391
Finished: 21.05.2020
Note: This story is part of my 'Homeland' universe, where Casey and Zeke are married and have adopted a little boy / two children. All stories can be read as a stand-alone ones.
Casey looked at his husband thoughtfully. „Do you think this is a good way to deal with it,“ he finally asked. „To tell him that he has to forfeit every contact with this girl won't make it better.“
Zeke frowned. „What else can we do? His behavior has been outrageous lately; he skips school and even lies to us. It has to be her bad influence.“
Putting down his book, Casey couldn't hide his smile. „You sound like my dad when he did find out that we two started to hang around after school.“
Zeke huffed. „This was different! The rumors I've heard about this girl...“
„Are not worse than the rumors about you were. Jay is almost sixteen, and he is in love. Makes no sense to freak out because of this. I am glad that back then, my mom was smart enough to see this; she had a serious talk with both of us when my dad and I started to fight violently. The words we threw at each other..." He shrugged. "I already had packed my stuff, threatening to go forever.“
„Shit!“ Zeke grabbed his beer to take a sip; maybe more because he needed a moment to let this sink in. „You wanted to break up with your parents because of me?“
„Sure." Casey chuckled. "I didn't care much about all the rumors because I believed in you. And I was right, wasn't I? You are a decent guy, a social worker with all your heart, a wonderful father. And I can't imagine life without you.“
„Hm.“ Zeke smirked. „But I still have a terrible feeling about this girl. We can't let him run off a cliff blindly.“
Casey stepped behind the chair to put his arms around his husband's shoulders. „Don't underestimate him; our son is a smart boy. If she's not the right one, he will realize it sooner than later. We can't protect him from any mistake he will make in his life, but we can be there for him whenever he needs us.“
Sighing deeply, Zeke put his head back. „I've never thought that it would be so challenging to grow up a child.“
„I did neither,“ Casey answered. „But I will never regret it that we decided to do so.“
