Dead slow Smith opened his eyes; his head was hammering, his mouth was dry, and he felt as lousy as he had never felt before. He licked his dry lips and groaned. „Don't bury me when it's over,“ he murmured,“ burn my body and scatter the ash in the wood. Not the lake; I hate the lake.“
Kurdy looked up from his book, grinning. „Oh, you are back.“
Smith stared at him as if he had a hard time remembering the name of the big guy talking. „What is happened?“
„Erin's birthday party last night, remember? Markus treated us with some bottles of his Whiskey, the good stuff from the old times.“
„Oh!“ Slowly the memories came back. Smith was not a great friend of the homemade booze you usually got nowadays; the taste mostly was horrible, and the effect unpredictable. But who could say no to a glass Bourbon Whiskey, almost older than he was? „Oh!“
Wait! Last night? He had lost... how many hours? How could this happen? He tried to sit up, but the dizziness rushing through his body let him fall back onto his small bed again.
The grin on Kurdy's face deepened. „I guess you have had the fun of your life. Never knew that you are such a good dancer.“
„I did … what? I can't dance!“
„Jenny would say something different. Obviously, you two had had a damn great time... well, at least before it got a tiny bit out of control.“
Smith squeezed his eyes shut. „No, shit! What did I do?“
„Believe me, you don't want to know. But no need to worry, I got you out there before it could get worse. You'll survive.“
„Hmpf. You are not supposed to be my babysitter,“ Smith groaned.
„Try to look it at this way.“ Kurdy chuckled slightly. „Usually, it's your turn to save me ass. Was about time to give something back.
Think you can get up now? Markus has an important job to do, and I guess I shouldn't go there without my partner.“
