„Kurdy, I could need your help!“
The big guy looked up from his book, eying his partner frowning. Smith was dressed up in his coat, a woolen hat, and a scarf, his old backpack in his mittened hands. „We have a massive snowstorm, Smith, and no, I don't plan to leave the Mountain before it's over.“
„I would no ask you to do that. But I need you to come with me to the garage. Talk with Jim; he's your friend. I guess you can convince him to give me one of the jeeps.“
„You can't be serious. Markus has stopped every outdoor trip because it is much too dangerous. What is so important that you want to risk your neck?“
„The school. Someone needs to make sure that they are all okay.“ Smith's voice steady as ever, but he couldn't hide the concern in his eyes.
Realization hit Kurdy. Of course, the old convent, where Sister Hannah, one of the most aged woman alive Kurdy had met since ages, had built up a resort for homeless children. Rose was living there, too, a strange, little girl. Smith insisted on being her father. Kurdy had never been sure what to think about this story, but he could understand what Smith had to go through at the moment. Rose was the only one he felt close to, the only one he called his family.
„Okay, give me a minute,“ he said, closing his book and standing up. „I have to change clothes; it will be freezing cold outside.“
