Zeke rolled his eyes when Casey couldn't stop gushing about this cheerleader bitch. „Okay, stop! Take a breath. Too much information,“ he finally said.
„Oh, sorry.“ The boy giggled, slightly embarrassed. „I used to forget that you and Delilah are not best friends.“
„This is not about me and bitchy bitch.“ Zeke pulled his face. „I just wish you would be more careful. I'm afraid she's only using you, and one day she will break your heart. She is like that, selfish and uncaring for other people's feelings.“
Casey's grin vanished. „She might have changed. I guess we all did. You can't survive an alien invasion without getting affected by it.“
Zeke nodded slowly. „I know.“ Of course, he did. Only some weeks ago, Casey hadn't been more than a lab partner for him, the geeky boy he shared the bleachers with at lunchbreak; Zeke, making his dealings, Casey reading. They were much too different to talk much.
This one night had changed all; suddenly, he saw him in a different light. When everyone else had failed, Casey had found the courage to stand up against the alien queen. To save all of them; the jocks who had constantly bullied him; the teachers who had ignored it because a favorite football team was so much more important than a brilliant student. His parents who had always acted as if they were ashamed of his behavior. And him, Zeke. Though he had done nothing to deserve this.
He tore himself out of his reverie. „I hope you are right. But I will have an eye on her; if she hurts you, she will be in serious trouble.“
