Thoughtfully Zeke watched the boy digging through the selves of the second-hand area of the bookshop.
Something was different today, even if he couldn't put the finger on it. The same checkered shirt, the denim too wide, as ever, and the always present camera bag around his neck. The sight outright cried: Look, I am the world's greatest geek!
But nonetheless, something was different! And Zeke's curiosity fully awoken.
He could see a grin sneaking on the boy's face; he even giggled loudly while reading in an old comic. And suddenly, the scales fell from Zeke's eyes.
That was it! He knew Casey from school and saw him rushing through the halls, hiding in the darkroom, in the hopeless try to escape the jock's teasing and bullying, every day anew. Today though... he had never seen him so relaxed and happy before.
As if Casey could sense his eyes resting on him, he suddenly turned around. Blushed slightly, but still smiled. „Hey, Zeke!“
This was new, too. At school, Casey barely talked with anyone else; even the bleachers at lunchbreak, they usually shared in silence. Zeke grinned back. „Hey, Casey. What are you doing here? Looking for new reading material?“
