„Hey, Case.“ Zeke stepped closer to place a fleetingly kiss on his boyfriend's lips. „Ready for Christmas shopping?“
Sighing, Casey stepped back. „No, sorry, I can't, not this weekend.“
„Oh. What's happened?“
„My mom.“ Slightly embarrassed, Casey shrugged. „Because next weekend is the Christmas party at my dad's work, she has decided that tomorrow is a good day for the yearly advent movie marathon. It's a family thing; how can I say 'no' to her? It's a hard year for her anyway because it's the first Christmas without my grandpa.“
Despite feeling disappointed, Zeke smiled. „Hey, don't worry, I understand.“
Casey hesitated. „To be honest, she asked me to invite you to join us.“
„Ähm... me?“ Not sure what to think about this, Zeke's heart suddenly beat wilder. It was about two months now that his friendship with Casey had turned into more. And even if the Conner's had always treated him okay, he had known to avoid meeting them since then.
„I've already told her that you have different plans,“ Casey murmured, avoiding eye contact.
„Yeah, I guess that's a good decision. I don't want to ruin your evening.“
„No, it's not like you think. My parents don't have any problems with me being gay, and I wouldn't be surprised if at least mom already suspects what's going on with us. It's just...“ He rolled his eyes. „Hallmark.“
„Hallmark?“
Casey nodded. „Hallmark Christmas movies. My mom has already chosen three of them. She's obsessed by this kind of stuff.“
Zeke started to laugh. „And you are not?“
„Well. Maybe, when I was younger. It's been part of the Conner's Christmas tradition since I can remember. And, you know, I love traditions.“
„I never watched this kind of movie.“
„Of course not; you are into classic SciFi and horror, not into endless drama with stupid happy ends. Don't worry; I do understand that you don't want to bother with this.“
Zeke eyed him smiling. „But maybe I'm willing to give it a try.“
„What?“ Casey stared at him dumbfounded. „Why should you?“
„If watching a stupid Hallmark movie is the way into your mom's heart, I can deal with it. Once in a year.“
„Oh.“ For a moment, Casey felt lost for words; then he grinned all over his face. „I love you.“
„You better do.“ Zeke pulled him into his arms for a passionate kiss. „You will have to come up with something to make up for that later.“
