Casey's eyes widened. „What are you doing?“
Zeke stripped off his sweater, inwardly chuckling. „This is a natural hot spring.“
„Yes, it is, but...“ Casey coughed when the older boy started to open his jeans. „Zeke, stop!“
„Hm? Okay, it's your decision, but dipping into a hot spring with your denim on sounds not very comfortable.“
Casey blushed deeply. „We are not here for taking a bath,“ he stammered.
„Oh, we are not?“ Zeke pulled his jeans up again; it was hard not to burst into laughter. „So, what are we doing here?“
„You know, I still need some photos for the art course.“
„Doesn't mean you can't combine work and fun. C'mon, you need to relax and overstep the lines now and then. It's nothing wrong with it.“
„Okay, stop it.“ Casey rolled his eyes. „I am not one of these giddy girls you can suck in with some sweet-talk."
„Jealous?“ Zeke laughed. „No need to. I know you are much too smart to fall for this. And no, I wouldn't share this place with any of them. It's my secret hiding place when life gets just too much. Lying in hot water, closing your eyes, and taking in the silence around. Nothing can be better.“
„I don't get it. Why do you took me here. What do you want?“
„I won't jump at you right away when it is this you are afraid of,“ Zeke tried to joke, but his eyes looked serious. „I would never hurt you intentionally. Because what we have is special. And I try not to ruin it.
Taking you here was because I've hoped you might feel about this place like I do. Make it our hiding place.“
Casey needed a moment to let these words sink in. He enjoyed it to hang around with Zeke, even if he had always wondered how long it would last. They actually didn't have much in common. Casey was a family person, a geek who loved photography and chess. Zeke was used to living on his own for quite a while already; he was a rebel who didn't care much about rules, the king of every party. The sudden realization that Zeke seemed to be honestly interested in their friendship felt almost like a shock.
„It is a great place; I love it,“ he finally murmured. „But maybe we can just take the photos today, and come back next weekend, bringing our swimming trunks?“
„Zeke laughed, relief sparkling in his eyes. „That sounds like a plan,“ he agreed.
