:::
Life had never been easy for one of them, but it was worst for Klaus. How much had he secretly envied his siblings for their special skills; it looked so cool when Diego manipulated his knives to fly after his will or when Ben summoned long-gone creatures. All the time, he was so aware of the suspicious glances of the others when he was talking with the dead. And he couldn't even blame them; it scared himself beyond words.
But Sir Reginald, his adoptive father, showed no mercy; he forced him to train his abilities every day anew, no matter what it made with him. And when he could not satisfy his order, he got locked into the crypt under the academy for hours or even days.
No chance to escape. It almost broke him. Almost. If not a horrible accident would have changed his life unexpectedly for the better. A mission went wrong, and Ben died. Ben, the most gentle one of the siblings, always friendly, always smiling, always trying to help. It was at the night of his funeral when it happened for the first time that he visited Klaus.
Shock turned into happiness soon when he realized that he was the only one of the siblings who had not lost his brother. From now on, he could hang around with him as often as he wanted, an intimate togetherness that was rare in the Umbrella Academy.
No, he would never have a normal life. Even years later, when he finally had found the courage to leave the academy and his overpowering father behind, he could only endure his nightmare-like life with many pills and booze. And sex with guys, as damaged as he was.
But he never was alone. His brother Ben was always at his side to catch him when it got too bad.
