„Smith? What's going on here?“ Kurdy eyed the little guy frowning. Yes, his behavior could be strange sometimes, but that he started a fight with someone at least two heads bigger than he was, was more than that.
„It's nothing; I need one of the jeeps, and...“
„And Markus had given out strict order to reduce private trips to a minimum,“ the guy, working in the garage, cut him short. „That's it!“
Smith balled his hands into fists, stepping even closer. „I've told you, it's an emergency.“
The mechanic shrugged, unimpressed. „I would know about it. Don't think I will fall for your shit.“
„You are such an asshole!“
„Hey, you should better leave the garage right now. Or...“ Getting angry, the guy grabbed for the collar of Smith's thick, old coat.
„Okay. Stop that, stop!“ Kurdy stepped between the two before the situation could get out of control. „What the hell is wrong with you? If you are seeking a fight, I would suggest visiting one of my training courses. And I will work your's butt off.“
Smith let his hand sink, and when he turned around to Kurdy, tears were sparkling in his eyes. „You don't get it, this is an emergency. I need to go to school. Rose, she's not okay. She needs me!“
Kurdy sighed. „Understand,“ he murmured. He didn't need to ask where Smith had gotten this information because he already knew the answer. One of these strange messages, the little guy insisted on getting from God. He didn't like to admit it, but all too often, these already had turned out to be true. So it was no wonder that Smith overreacted at the thought that his little daughter might be in danger.
Kurdy turned to the mechanic. „Hey, c'mon Jim, this sounds like an exceptional case.“
„Hmpf. But he's only talking shit, as ever. Why should I risk it to get into difficulties because of this?“
„Because I ask you to turn a blind eye on it? I will go with him. It's only some miles; we will be back within two hours.“
Finally the mechanic shrugged, turning to a shelf behind him to grab a key. „You are deeply in my dept now. Really, I don't get it, why you do this for him.“
Kurdy smirked. „He's my partner.“

The jeep still rolled to a stop when Smith already jumped out, rushing over to the old convent's entrance-building. Kurdy could see Sister Hannah greeting him. Her face friendly as ever, she put his hand on Smith's arm while talking, but the little guy shrugged it off and stormed into the building.
Kurdy cut off the engine when she stepped closer to the jeep. As ever when he met the old nun, he felt a slight uneasiness. He didn't believe in wonder, and it was hard to accept that she was still alive, while all other adults died through the virus about fifteen years ago. „Is Rose seriously ill? Then maybe we should take her to the Mountain's hospital ward.“
Sister Hannah smiled. „An allergic reaction. She has a high fever, even was unconscious for a while. We were worried. But seeing her father will help her to get better soon.“
