„Zeke.“ Casey sniffled. „All I ask you for is to go to the school's library, looking up some infos about Jane Eyre.“
„But this is ridiculous. Talk with Miss Burke, tell her that you are sick, and will pass in the homework some days later.“
Casey coughed twice. „No! I always finish my homework in time, and this won't change only because of a stupid cold three months before graduation.“
„Hm,“ Zeke huffed, slowly getting tired of this. „But that's not my problem. For sure I have better to do than to waste my time at a sticky library.“
Dead silence for a moment. But then:“ You owe me!“
„I... what?“ Stupid geek, why was he actually talking with him?
„You owe me.“ Suddenly Casey's voice sounded defiant. „Remember the last homework we had to do for chemistry? We were supposed to do this as a team, but of course, you preferred to go on a road trip instead of meeting up with me.“
„I don't do teamwork.“
„But, you have had no problem with accepting the B+ we got for it.“
„Oh.“ Zeke didn't hide a chuckle. „This. Why didn't you tell Mr. Furlong? I guess he wouldn't have blamed you for that.“
„Because I am not such a prick.“ Casey sneezed again. „Sorry for bothering you; I should have known better.“
Zeke laughed when Casey ended the phone call without even a short goodbye. No, there was nothing he had in common with him, but for whatever reason, even if he would never admit it, he had a soft spot for him. Instead of getting into his GTO to skip the last classes, like planned, he turned back to school. A visit to the library would only mean a short delay of his weekend plans, and later he could surprise Casey at home with all the needed infos for his homework. It would be interesting to see his reaction.
