The door fell shut behind Delilah, and despite the tears in his eyes, Casey felt relieved. It was over. For almost a year, they had dated, but while Delilah enjoyed all the fame he got after the alien incident at school, he had always hated it when people called him a hero.

The truth was that she had obviously loved the attention they always got when they turned up somewhere much more than she had ever loved him. But he couldn't blame her. To be honest, he himself had used her in a similar vein. He had enjoyed it to have such a pretty girl at his side, jealous looks of other guys, and his father, who finally told that he was so proud of him. For the first time in his life.

Casey blinked his tears away. The words Delilah had thrown at him during the last hour, did still hurt. But finally, he was ready to accept the truth. That it was the only right thing to break up with her.

For both of them. He could only hope that one day Delilah would be ready to see it this way, too.
