„What's happened?“ Smith pushed Erin aside and stepped closer to the hospital's bed. The usually big and strong guy who was lying on it looked so weak; his cheeks sunken in, his eyelids closed but twitchy flattering. His body was doubling over in cramps, only hold back by the fixation of his legs and arms.

„Shit,“ Smith said. „Is this really necessary?“

Erin shrugged helplessly. „He tried to harm himself; this was the only way to stop him. The doc thinks it might be some kind of drugs.“

„No way. Kurdy would never touch this stuff.“

„Maybe he has taken it unwittingly.“

Smith kept quiet for a moment, thinking hard. „Or someone tried to poison him,“ he murmured. „Now, everything makes sense.“

Erin frowned. „What are you talking about?“

„God told me this morning. But I was too distracted to pay attention.“ Shaking all over, Smith sank down onto the wooden chair beside his partner, his friend. „It is my job to protect Kurdy, but I failed, and now he has to pay the price for it.“
