Gabe glared at Zeke, who was leaning against the bleachers, smoking. „If you wanna be a part of the team, you should learn to play along. Stop hanging around with this Connor geek so often. He's so pathetic.“

Zeke narrowed his eyes. „This pathetic geek risked his life to save your stupid ass. Without him, we all would be slaves in an alien colony.“

The starplayer of the Hornets winced visibly. „Shut up, Tyler.“

„For me, he is a hero,“ Zeke continued, unimpressed by the threat. „And I won't let it happen, that anyone will ever hurt him again.“

Zeke smirked. „You are such a geek, Casey. Why don't you try to fit in? The jocks would lose interest in you soon.“

The boy kept quiet for a moment, still pressing a tissue at his nose. Finally, he looked up. „I might be an outcast, ignored and bullied, but I like to walk alone. At least I can look into my face every morning without being ashamed because I don't betray myself all day long.“

„Uhm... you are not talking about me, are you?“

Casey ignored the threatening undertone and shrugged. „It's your life. If it makes you happy to put on a show, go ahead. But I'm sure, in the end, I will make my dreams come true, while you...“ He paused shortly. „Dunno. Sometimes I wonder if you even have some plans for your future.“

Lost of words Zeke stared at Casey, who was grabbing for his backpack and finally left the bleachers. What a little shit! But deep inside a dull feeling sent out its rays; maybe there was some truth in Casey's words.
