„What are we doing here,“ Casey asked, his eyes wandering around the scrapyard.
Zeke pointed at a blue Ford Fiesta, covered with several dents and rust. „What do you think about this baby?“
Oh. Casey blinked, feeling a mixture of confusion and disappointment. Zeke was a car nerd, he loved his GTO, and there was no reason why he should trade it in for this one. But obviously he seemed wildly resolved, and this meant that probably all their fabulous plans for spring break would fall through. Because Zeke would spend every minute in the garage of his friend together with his new car. „Looks okay,“ he finally murmured halfhearted. „But you know, I don't have any clue about cars.“
„Yupp.“ Zeke grinned wide. „I guess it's about time to change this. A nineteen-year-old boy shouldn't be reliant on the car of his mother.“
„Oh. This one is for me?“ Slowly Casey started to grasp it. „But I have a bike. I don't need a car.“
„You will change your mind when we have finished spicing up the Ford. It's a gem.“
„Ähm... we? I guess you are talking about yourself. I'm all thumbs when it comes to tools.“
„I will use you as my gofer,“ Zeke laughed. „C'mon, Case, we will have a lot of fun with this baby. And when the work is done we will go on a long road trip. Time to increase your driver's skills.“
Casey frowned slightly. "Uhm, you will let me take a spell at the wheel?"
"Sure, it's your car, remember."
„Okay, what's wrong with you today? You'll hate it to sit at the passenger's seat.“
„Maybe not. You've taught me that it is worth it to overstep your lines now and then. All the phototrips we do together. First I did it for you because you love it. But later, I learned to see the world through your eyes, and now I do enjoy this so much.“
Zeke stepped closer to the Ford, let his hand wander over the hood. „I love cars like you are crazy about your camera. And I want to share this love with you. I want you to feel like I do when I am on the roads. It's so much more than just driving a car. It's freedom, it's life. A breathtaking adventure.“
„Okay.“ Suddenly Casey felt tears burning in his eyes; he was together with Zeke for quite a while already, and he had learned to live with it that his boyfriend was pretty introverted, not able to talk about his feelings easily. He hadn't been prepared for this. „This sounds great.“
„I always have the best idea, you should know this.“ Zeke bent forward to kiss him. „And now let's go into the office, I need to talk with Eddie about the prize for this heap of junk.“
