It had been a mistake; Chloe knew it the moment she had taken a seat beside Lucifer in front of the piano to play a little song together with him. But never before had she seen him in such a sad and desolate state; usually, he drove her crazy with his self-assured behavior as if he owned the world and all people living in it.
All she had wanted was to give him some comfort; now she was sitting beside him, much too close; she could smell his expensive aftershave and the whiskey in the glass he held in his hand; she could feel the heat radiating from his body, hotter than the fire buring in hell; her hands were trembling, and her heart was up to her mouth, when he suddenly turned his head, sparkles in his dark eyes, she felt the urge to run, but he held her like under a spell, then he bent forward, and their lips met.
