„Daddy?“ Casey looked up from his book when his son stepped into the living room. „Can I get a pair of scissors?“
„Where do you need it for? Do you want to cut something out for school?“
Jason hesitated. „Hmm... not exactly.“
„Okay. What is it then?“
„It's because of Marie.“
Casey frowned. That was strange. Marie, the baby, was supposed to sleep in her baby crib right now. „What's going on with her,“ he asked, getting up from the couch. Better to check that out.
„Her hair.“
„Her hair? Jay, please stop talking in riddles.“
Casey stepped into the children's room; Jason followed him. „I am sorry,“ he murmured. „It was not intentional!“
Suddenly icy cold rushed through Casey's body, and he hurried over to the baby crip under the window. Prepared for the worst. But the little baby greeted him with a wide smile, as ever. „Bababrrr,“ she bubbled, reaching out for him.
Feeling relieved, Casey pulled her into his arms; checked her quickly, everything seemed okay. Besides Jason's still strange behavior, the boy watched him guiltridden. Patting Marie's back of the head, Casey turned around... and suddenly he noticed it. Something sticky on Marie's hair. He took a closer look. Noticed the sweet, fruity smell. Realization hit him.
Suppressing his laughter, he turned to Jason. „What is this?“
The boy bit his lower lip. „It's bubblegum,“ he murmured. „Blueberry- vanilla. It's the best!“
„And what is it doing in the hair of your sister?“
Jason shrugged. „It was not intentional. I wanted to show her how to make bubbles, but suddenly, she turned her head, and it happened. I am sorry.“
Casey couldn't hold back his laughter any longer. „Well, we will have to cut it out, and it will look a bit weird for a while, but at least at Christmas, no one will notice it anymore. So, no need to worry. She will be fine.“
„You are not angry at me,“ Jason asked. "I should have been in my room doing my homework."
Holding Marie on one arm, Casey put the other around the boy's shoulder. „I am not angry," he reassured him. "Just do me a favor. Whatever you do in the future, nothing is so bad that you can't tell us straight away.“
