„Where are you going,“ Kurdy asked, surprised when he met Smith dressed in his old coat, scarf, and mittens in the entrance hall of the Mountain. „It's supposed to be a very cold night again; whatever you plan to do, it can wait until it gets warmer again, don't you think so?“
Shaking his head, Smith grabbed for his backpack. „Sorry, but the blood moon can only be seen tonight.“
„A bloody moon?“ Kardy frowned. „Lemme guess; this is one of this God's fucking prophecies again.“
„God has decided to give me some rest.“ Smith smiled.“ „He keeps quiet for some days.“
„So, and what's going on with the moon?“
„Actually, nothing; it's just a trick of the light. Every few years, the moon is in a total lunar eclipse. When the earth stands between the moon and the sun, the sunlight is cut off, causing the eclipse. Makes the moon look blood red.“
Kurdy huffed. „Sounds kinda spooky.“
„Maybe you should come with me,“ Smith suggested. „I am sure you would like it.“
„No way, I am not freezing my ass off because of this shit when there is a good beer waiting for me in the cafeteria.“
:::
About one hour later Kurdy was standing on the clearing near the Mountain together with Smith. As expected, the night was freezing cold, and he was chilled to the bones within some minutes despite his thick jacket. But he didn't complain, entirely under the spell of the moon's stunning sight.
