Smith kept quiet for a long while. Finally, he looked up. „They are survivors of the Big Death like we are. You don't know what has happened to them, what made them do what they do. If you wouldn't run into Jeremiah, and you two wouldn't have ended up at the Mountain, and Marcus wouldn't have been ready to take you in... who knows where you would be today. Maybe you would be one of them, homeless, alone, without any hope. Then maybe you would do what they do to survive at least one more day.“
„No way,“ Kurdy snarled. „I would prefer to die before turning into a monster.“
Smith smiled sadly. „You are a good guy, Kurdy, and I am glad that you never were forced to make a decision like this.“
