Jessica turned around when she heard the door opening. „Shit!“ With a loud thud, she put the Whiskey back onto her desk when her eyes fall onto Trish. The young woman was looking for hold at the wall, pale lake a sheet, blood was dripping from a wound at her temple. „What's happened? Who did this to you?“
„It's nothing!“ Breathing hard Trish dropped down onto the ugly, orange couch. „Just give me a minute.“
Slightly cursing Jessica went into the bathroom to grab some antiseptic and a bandage. „Let me have a look at it,“ she snarled, only to add some moments later: „Fortune favors fools. It isn't as bad as it looks like.“
„I told you.“ Trish shrugged.
„But next time it could end worse. You need to stop playing a hero. There is nothing you have to prove.“
Trish pulled her face. „Says the woman who gets herself into trouble every day.“
„Not by choice,“ Jessica reminded her. „And the price I pay is high; I can barely find some sleep lately without knocking myself out with lots of Whiskey. Or sex. Or both.“
„I would be willing to pay the price for at least some of your power.“ Trish touched the bandage around her temple. „I wouldn't have failed today but caught the purse snatcher who was threatening an old lady with a knife.“
„You don't know what you are talking about.“ Annoyed Jessica grabbed for the bottle of Whiskey again to take a sip. „A power like mine is not fun. You'll always be the lonely fighter. Some people might call you a hero, but for most, you are just a freak they can't understand. And they hate you for this.“ In a sudden moment of sentiment, she stepped over to the couch, to put her arms around Trish. „I love you, and it is good to know that you will never have to go through all this.“
