Title: Thoughts at night
Character: Casey Connor, mention of Zeke Tyler
Word Count: 200
Prompt: always / things change
Finished: 22.01.2023
:::
Casey stared into the darkness; he couldn't stop thinking about how much his life would change soon enough.
No highschool anymore, no bullying in the morning, no hunting for the best photos for the school's magazine anymore. No Mr. Miller, who always knew to encourage him not to give up his future plans, no matter how many stones were lying on the way.
No Zeke anymore. Not sharing a lab-table with him or the bleachers at lunchbreak. He wouldn't even meet him by chance at the comic shop or in the park; no 'Hello, geek boy,' “ anymore, no smile which always made his heart beat wilder. Because Zeke would stay back here in Herrington to work at his uncles' garage while he, Casey, would move to New York soon.
He sighed, fighting the tears burning in his eyes back. Photoschool. He needed to remember that this was what he had always dreamed about. Finally, being free, a geek between other geeks, not the outsider anymore everyone laughed about. A new, exciting life.
But he knew a part of his heart would always stay here, with Zeke, the rebel with the most beautiful hazelnut brown eyes he had ever seen.
