Some days after the graduation ceremony, Casey met him at the Mall.

„Zeke! I missed you at the ceremony last Saturday.“

„Not my cup of tea. Dressing up in a ridiculous gown? For what?“

„Guess your parents would have been proud.“

„My parents give a shit.“

„That's not fair.“

„Life is never fair; you should know this. Guess you are happy finally to leave this hellhole of a town.“

„Well, I don't like the thought of leaving my parents. But MIT will be great.“

„MIT, huh, Boston? Kinda cool. I was already thinking about it to move there, too. Maybe we can share an apartment?“

Casey's heart was beating wild at this prospect.

Let's talk about sex

Zeke laughed inwardly; this was so Casey. He always wanted to talk about just everything. And usually, Zeke didn't mind playing along. This time though...

Gently he pulled him into his arms for a soft kiss. „Case,“ he whispered. "Words can't explain how wonderful it is to make love. But I can show you.“

Let's talk straight

„Let's talk straight, Zeke. You want to be together with Casey? Why?“

The answer was easy and difficult at the same time. To express his feelings for Casey with only some words seemed to be impossible.

„I love him,“ he finally murmured.

Obviously the right answer. A smile sneaked on Mr. Connor's face.

Once more, with feeling

"Sorry." Zeke avoided eye contact; much too afraid of what he would find in Casey's amazing blue eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you."

A long pause; he was sure, this was the end. Then a hand touched his shoulder gently. „Well. I guess we could do it again my way. With more feeling.“

Casey pulled the face when he entered the school building. It had turned into a madhouse. Not that it was much better on normal days, especially not for someone like him, but he had learned to deal will all the teasing and bullying. What he couldn't stand though was everyone going crazy just because of Val-Day. Even the jocks played nice, much too busy with their romantic plans.

Of course, no one would ask him for a date, would buy him roses or write a poem. Last year he was still dating Delilah and he had tried to make it a special evening. But it had ended with a big fight, Del had called him a pathetic fag and broke up with him.

This year… well, Casey didn't fool himself. One could hardly call it a relationship that bound him with Keith. It was sex. Some stolen minutes after school at a hidden parking-lot in the woods nearby. Every Friday afternoon he took the old Audi of his mom to go to Columbus to his photo-club. At least this was what he told her. Well knowing that it would probably break her heart to hear that since some weeks his trips ended at a shabby motel.

It was not what he dreamed about, not a relationship with a partner he could trust and love. Keith had told him from the very beginning that he was not willing to ruin his future for Casey. He would graduate, visit a prestigious college and finally end as a junior associate in the company of his father. A coming-out was not part of his plans.

Nevertheless, Casey secretly had hoped for something special at Val-Day. Maybe a movie, a night together at a hotel in Akron where no one would know them. It would have been nice to pretend that it was more between them at least for one day.

But Keith had just rolled with his eyes. “Don't be stupid, Casey. I already have a date, with Ann-Marie. I will take her out for dinner and afterward, we will go into the 'Broadway-Club'. Her dad is a very important business partner of our corporation, it will be good for both sides when we two get closer.”

Casey had felt more annoyed than disappointed. So he planned to use this poor girl, like he used Casey, and she wouldn't even know about it. Once again he thought about it finally to break up with him. But Keith didn't seem to notice his discomfort, or he just didn't care, as long he got what he wanted. He pulled Casey back into his arms, started to nibble at his neck. And all of his nagging doubts ended in smoke again.

“Hey, geek boy, what's up?”

Casey cringed inwardly. The last he wanted to meet today. Zeke Tyler! The most wanted guy at school. The girls were around him as the bees around the flowers… and the latest rumors that Zeke secretly was interested guys too only seemed to make him more interesting for them.

“Get off my back, Zeke,” he snapped, sticking his nose even deeper into his book. Of course all in vain; Zeke could be such a stubborn, persistent ass.

“Oh, so feisty today!” The older boy smirked. “Lemme guess: Vag-Day? Still no date?”

Casey huffed. “As if I care. Commercial shit!”

“Right. So, what are you waiting for? Roses and chocolates from the boyfriend?”

For a split of a second, Casey's heart stopped beating, then he forced himself to calm down again. He couldn't know. No one did. They had always been careful, none of them interested that anyone would find out.

Zeke eyed him with a smug grin he would have liked to kill him for. “He's an idiot, Casey, not worth it.”

“I don't know what you are talking about.” But suddenly feeling weak at his knees.

Zeke pulled the face. “I'm not blind, Casey. Keith Williams. Sunshine Motel, shitty place, if you ask me. You met him last weekend and I guess, it wasn't for the first time.”

Casey swallowed hard. This turned into a nightmare. And worst of all, he couldn't imagine where all this would go to. Blackmail? This was not like Zeke, but one could never know what was going on in his mind.

“Don't worry.” To his surprise, Zeke smiled reassuringly as if he could read his mind. “It's none of my business. Just curious: is he such a good lay? He's a prick, just using you.”

Casey bit his lower lip, well knowing that he was blushing. Of course, Zeke was right. He let it happen that Keith used him again and again. And the sex wasn't even good. Keith knew how to get what he wanted, but he never asked about Casey's wishes. It was arousing anyway, his only chance to get what he wanted. But afterward, when Keith was gone, leaving it to him to pay for the room, he always felt the urge to vomit, and he hated himself.

“I guess, Keith is not interested to spend Val-day together with you. So, if you don't have other plans what about a movie night? I have gotten some cheesy horror flicks lately, might be fun.”

Casey startled out of his thoughts, blinking confusedly. “Horror movies?”

“Fits perfectly for the most dreadful day of the year,” Zeke laughed. "C'mon, let's have some fun. I promise to be nice." His hazelnut brown eyes sparkled and suddenly Casey's heart was beating wilder than ever before. Actually he had nothing to lose, right?
