:::

Zeke woke up and pulled the blanket tighter around his body. The storm had finally started to die away, but it was much too early to think about moving on. He would need at least a glimpse of daylight to find a way through the muddy, branch-covered roads. It was better to stay here for the following hours.

They had been lucky to find this deserted depot. Old, long-abandoned trains were everywhere, emptied, with broken windows and ripped-out doors. The depot was overgrown with grass and brushwood. But there was this small cabin. For whatever reason, it had outlived the years and offered more safety than any other place.

He turned around and wanted to pull Casey closer to warm him even more. And he felt his body trembling.

"Case?"

A scarcely audible sobbing was the answer. Zeke frowned and grabbed for the old flashlight at his side. The battery was almost empty, but the weak light beam fell on Casey, curled up, with his arms around his knees and shoulders shaking. Sometimes, he did wake up crying, gasping for air, full of panic, when a nightmare tormented him, but this was different.

"Hey."
Carefully, Zeke touched his shoulder. Casey stiffened, but he didn't shake him off.
"What's going on? One of these dreams again?"

Casey gasped once again, and Zeke was almost surprised when he answered.
"It's this place."
A whisper, barely to understand.

"I see. A bit spooky, huh? But it's just an abandoned train depot. Nothing dangerous."

Well, at least not more dangerous than any other place. Life in the new world wasn't a safe one. The safest place he could imagine was the Marriot Hotel in Herrington, where they had been living together with some others after a virus caused by the death of a stupid alien had turned the world around. But they had left this sanctuary and been on the road for months now, looking for a place whose existence Zeke still doubted. Casey, though, wasn't willing to give up, and he would be by his side as long as needed, no question.

Zeke could feel Casey relaxing a bit while he shook his head.
"It's a great place. Almost alive, as if it wants to tell stories about long gone times."

"Oh!"
He hated it when Casey talked like this. Ages ago, he would have laughed and called him a geek. Now, it gave him the creeps to think that Casey might one day lose his mind, immersed in a world where he couldn't follow him.

Casey turned around and looked at him.
"I came back here with my camera. Someone needs to capture the atmosphere of this place before it disappears. These were the best pictures I've ever taken. Mr. Brown ... Mr. Brown told me to use them for my college application."
He paused as if he needed to think about his own words.
"It was just a dream, wasn't it?"

Zeke pulled him into his arms and nodded.
"Yeah, just a dream."

"Okay."
It didn't last long that he put his head onto Zeke's shoulder and started to doze off.
"Sometimes I wish I could turn back time."

+++

Over the next few hours, Zeke held him in his arms, feeling his warmth and calm, quiet breathing. With Casey's words still in his head, sleep was out of the question.

Sometimes, I wish I could turn back time.

Back to the hell of High-school, where the jocks would bully him day in - day out. College, New York, Boston, LA. Far away from the small-mindedness in Ohio, he would finally be able to find himself. And of course, one day he would be a famous photographer, with exhibitions worldwide. Zeke didn't doubt that, even for a moment.

He felt terrible at the thought that he was glad to know all this would never happen. Casey would have made his way into the old world, and Zeke would have been left behind in Ohio, trapped in an illusory world he had built up to fight loneliness and boredom.

Gently, he put his lips on Casey's forehead and whispered: "I love you."

And the boy in his arms smiled and snuggled even closer to him.

Title: Reunion
Character: Scully, Chris Carter, mention of Mulder
Rating: PG
Word Count: 213 words
Prompt: Alternate occupations - The X-Files, Fox Mulder/Dana Scully, Mulder is a reporter, and Scully is the singer he is interviewing

:::

"Dana!"

Chris Carter, her manager, sighed inwardly. She was a talented singer, maybe one of the best he had ever had under contract. But she was also one of the most stubborn, especially regarding reporters. She outright hated giving interviews and answering the same lame questions again and again.

"Please, baby, be nice to him. He's working for one of the most popular magazines."

She rolled her incredible green eyes and smirked.
"Spooky Mulder? I remember him from college. He was a geek who tried to convince everyone that aliens exist."

Chris smiled.
"Well, he might have changed. Wasn't it you who demonstrated for free love and pot for all once? No one who sees you on stage nowadays would consider this possible yet.

Give him at least a chance, okay?"

The second she entered the room, her heart was up in her mouth. Instead of denim and a t-shirt, he wore a suit and a dark red tie. But besides that, nothing had changed. The same brown eyes, the same slightly messy hair, the same barely visible smile.

And all she wanted was to pull him into her arms and kiss him ... like she had always wanted to do.

prompt: sand castles
A day at the sea;
sun, beach and endless ocean.
Children are laughing.

Building sandcastles;
sea shells, sea stars, and pebbles
cover sandy walls;

Water in the moat,
towers reaching for the sky.
Look! So beautiful!

Then the sun falls down
into the deep blue water.
It's time to go home.

prompt: trapped / fandom: Jeremiah
Smith stared at the clock.
Feeling tired and annoyed.
Again an hour lost.

Again he had failed.
Had found out the truth behind
the presage too late.

God was merciless,
he refused to tell him all,
only strange fragments.

Smith cursed him often,
had tried to ignore the voice.
There was no escape.

His ultimate fate
was to be God's messenger
now and forever.

prompt: love in dark times / Fandom: The Walking Dead
He had never said:
'I love you' and he never would
get a chance again.

Much too afraid of
this new and scary feeling
he had denied it.

Had avoided it
to be together with her.
To enjoy her smile

her voice, her gestures.
Green-brown eyes, so beautiful.
Lips so warm and soft.

Daryl swallowed hard,
couldn't fight his tears for longer.
The angel was gone.

All she left behind
was a huge, dark emptiness.
He was lost forever.

Murder (53 words)
It was always a relief when a case was solved, and she could finally go home to the two people she loved most, William and Henry. However, J.J. knew well enough that it would be only a short moment of peace because the next murderer was already waiting for the team.

Detective (88 words)
First, she had worked as a detective for the FBI for some months, never entirely accepted because she was able to look deeper behind motives and lies than the others did; she didn't need conclusive evidence but followed her instincts; one day, Jason Gideon offered her a job in the BAU as a profiler, and she grabbed the chance; now, five years later, she was still working with the team, and though the job sometimes was hard to endure, she knew she had made the only right decision.

Secret (53 words)
It became increasingly difficult for Emily to keep everything secret from the team. They were her friends, her confidants. They trusted her blindly, and she told them lies every day, anew, about her past, her life, and even her name. She knew it was necessary, but this didn't make it better.

Lies (73 words)
Lies were part of J.J. 's job, and she had learned to see through them by reading facial expressions and even the smallest gestures. However, when she looked into the stoney face of the guy opposite her now, a dull feeling of uneasiness rushed through her body. It seemed impossible to figure out what was happening in his mind, and she thought she might fail this time.

Motive (53 words)
When J.J. got home, she took refuge in Will's arms. She had already seen a lot while working for the BAU, and she could understand why people did horrible things out of hate or revenge. But how could a father wipe out his whole family and call it love?

Victim (29 words)
J.J. knew that sometimes it was challenging to distinguish between right and wrong, and sometimes, horrible things happened only because the victim finally turned into the offender.

Investigative reporter (97 words)
J.J. was used to it dealing with investigative reporters, but this time she needed all her self-control not to lose her temper and yell at this guy who wouldn't stop following her, demanding more information about the kidnapping of one of the most famous actors in town; it was too early to come out with the cruel truth, that his five-year-old son was lying in the expensive mansion only some steps away, killed by a monster... and he reminded J.J. so much on Henry, her son, that she couldn't stop shaking all over.

Who did it? (36 words)
'Who did it?' this was a question Derek asked only rarely because since he was a part of the BAU team, he had learned that the question 'Why did it happen?' often was much more important.

Broken windows (104 words)
Reid stared out of the broken window, trying hard to fight the tears burning in his eyes and the numbness that wanted to take over his mind; Gideon, his mentor, his friend, was dead, killed by one of the monsters he had fought for most of his life, and Reid wasn't sure if he would be able to move on without him; but when he turned around his eyes fall onto the other team members, all of them shocked and sad, but wildly resolved to bring this case to an end, and they counted on him, so giving up now was not an option.

Cry (46 words)
The loud cry still echoed in Garcia's ears; shocked, she was sitting on her desk chair, staring at the dark computer screens in front of her; these moments were the worst, not knowing what was going on and if everyone from the team was okay.

Weapon (22 words)
J.J. was a good shooter but had never learned to like weapons; she still preferred to rely on her brilliant mind.

Dead wrong (62 words)
Like so often, Rossi had been sure that they had found the answer to every open question, that the case was solved, the guilty delinquent in prison and the family of the victim finally could find at least some peace; but suddenly, months later a new murderer had happened, and he had to admit that this time they all had been dead wrong.

Witness protection program (80 words)
Full of pity, Garcia watched the young woman who was cowering on the chair in Hotch's office, her face hidden in her hands, her shoulders shaking slightly; she had to go through too much, had seen her parents die, and now she would have to leave everything behind, she had ever known; the witness protection program of the FBI was her only chance to survive, and Garcia hoped that she would be strong enough to build up a new life.

blackmail letter (64 words)
Garcia stared at the blackmail letter; for sure not the first one he had seen, but this time it was different; she felt paralyzed with horror and wanted to shut her computer down and run, but deep inside, she knew that this was not an option; the team would need her help to have at least a tiniest chance to bring this to a good end.

Fate (44 words)
It took a while until Hotch realized that his life had to go on also without Holly; maybe it was his fate to help other victims find some peace again while he would never be able to get over the nagging pain.
