„Oh, c'mon, Casey.“ Zeke rolled his eyes. „Not you, too! Don't tell me, bitchy bitch has bewitched you like all the other dumbheads before.“
„She's not that bad anymore.“ The boy laughed. „I know you will never forgive her that she crashed your lab that night, but it actually was not her fault. She was possessed by an alien, like most others, and it has changed her.“
„You think so? I can't entirely agree. She is selfish like always, and she's just using you because you get all the fame right now.“
„ I know.“ For a moment, Casey looked slightly uneasy. „This is not okay. I was not the only hero that night. You did...“
„Stop,“ Zepe interrupted him. „Keep me out of this. I'm not interested in joining this pathetic game.“
„Do you know how much money the media is willing to pay for a stupid interview? And how much they paid for the photo of Delilah and me, kissing?“
„Oh shit! You've turned in a whore, willing to do all for some pennies. Really? What the hell did she do to make you play along? What promises did she make?“
Casey blushed slightly. „You can't blame her for that. It was not her idea.“
Zeke frowned. „What are you talking about?“
„I knew Delilah was dreaming about visiting a fashion college after graduation for so long already. Like it was a given that I would go to the city college in Akron or Columbus one day instead of moving to New York or San Fransisco, visiting one of the great art schools.“ Casey shrugged, looking defiant. „Much too expensive dreams.
But then the alien incident happened, and suddenly the media called me a hero. All I had to do was to grab the chance. And together with Del, it turned out to be a money-spinner. Took a while to convince her to play along, but finally, she agreed. And I guess she doesn't have to regret it; the money and the fame we got during the last weeks will bring us into every college of our choice.“
„Oh!“ It didn't often happen that Zeke felt lost for words, but right now, all he could do was stare at his friend, full of disbelief.
„Yeah.“ Casey smirked slightly. „I only have to find a way to bring this to an end sometime soon. I admit, I haven't thought that the interest in us would last for so long. Slowly it gets tiring.“
