Zeke stopped dead when his eyes fell onto the just opened amusement hall of the mall. Of course, he had heard about it before; when the first rumors about it popped up two months ago, it had seemed to be the only topic of conversation at school for a while. Everyone was wild about it to try it out, but only Zeke couldn't understand the reason for it.
Okay, it was Herrington's first big amusement hall, and most students had probably never visited one before. He had made some good money by selling fake ID's during the last weeks. Though he knew that for most of them, the disillusion would follow soon.
The excitement of stepping into a completely different world, a world full of lights, and music, the permanent clatter of the slot machine, and, of course, the jingle of the money in the case of a win, would be replaced quickly with the realization, that it was highly unlikely to crack the jackpot, but very likely that you will lose all of your little pocket money within half an hour.
Zeke shrugged. Actually, non of his business; though it could mean that he would make less money at school because these dumbheads carried all their money to the mall. Then suddenly, his eyes fall on one guy in the crowd: checkered shirt, wide denim. No camera around his neck today, but without any question, it was Casey Connor. A nerd, brilliant student, golden boy who always followed the rules. Zeke had never paid much attention to him before. What the heck was he doing here?
He watched him getting closer to the entrance, where he got stopped by a doorman. They changed only some words, then Casey turned away, made his way out of the crowd, looking droopy. Zeke smirked; how could he be so naive to think that he would get into an amusement hall without a perfectly made fake ID?
„Hey!“ He couldn't hold back; stepped in his way when Casey got closer. „No luck today?“
Casey jerked back, blushing deeply. „Zeke! What do you want?“
„Maybe I can help you.“
„You? Me? No, thanks!“
„Fine." Zeke chuckled. "But don't worry, only some months. When you turn eighteen, you can come back to throw your money down their throat.“
„I don't know what you are talking about.“ The mixture of unsureness and stubbornness in these deep blue eyes was somehow amusing.
„It's a waste of money, Casey.“ Suddenly Zeke's eyes sparkled mischievously. „But if you want to overstep your lines, come to my garage tonight. I already have some ideas about how I can help you.“
