Casey stared at the pen in his fingers. „Do you really think it will work,“ he asked with a slightly shaking voice.
Zeke shrugged. „The stuff is good, but I admit, I've never planned to kill an alien with it.“
„Well!“ The smaller boy straightened his body. „I guess we will find out soon. Even if there is only a fifty-fifty chance, we don't have much choice, right?“
Where did this sudden courage come from? Zeke eyed him thoughtfully. Only one day ago, he would have put all his money on it, that geeky Casey Connor would be the first one running away screaming in view of an alien invasion. Or maybe not; he would have called everyone an idiot who did believe in aliens.
Now the world was turned around, and he likely wouldn't survive this night. Everything felt like a ridiculous dream. „I can do it,“ he finally said.
„Don't be stupid.“ Casey looked at Zeke's swollen foot; probably it was broken. „You can barely stand upright.“ Suddenly he smirked. „This is strange, isn't it? Who would have thought that one day a geek will have to save the world.“
Zeke shook his head. „You are a hero,“ he murmured, then bent forward to pull Casey into a passionate kiss.
