Casey eyed Zeke suspiciously. „Okay, spit it! What the heck have you done?“
Slightly grinning, he turned around. „I did what?“
„Don't act the fool. Gabe. Strange enough, he didn't make the try to push me into the flag pool this morning. But that at gym he stepped in for me, when coach Willis tried to make a fool out of me once again, feels like a wonder that doesn't even happen in my weirdest dreams. Unless...“ He paused, narrowing his eyes. „Unless someone did butt in though he has promised not to do so.“
Zeke shrugged. "I don't know what you are talking about."
"We agreed about it, that you'll stay away from my problems. I can deal with it alone. I always did!"
"Course you can. You are so much smarter and better than most of the jocks. Maybe it is karma.“
Casey blinked. „It's what?“
„Karma. Don't you have heard about it? We all will get one day what we deserve.“
„That's bullshit, you know that, don't you?“
Zeke stepped forward, putting his hand on Casey's shoulder. „All I know is that I don't care about the reason for Gabe's sudden change of behavior. As long as it means that he leaves you alone from now on.“
