„There is only one way to stop Davos,“ Danny said, emphasizing every word. „He never was the rightful owner of the Iron Fist, and we need to make it undo.“
Colleen watched him full of concern. „But what will happen to you when you take it back?“
He hesitated, then he shook his head. „I can't. I was willing to use it only for the best, but I'm afraid I never was strong enough to deal with such a power, either.“
„I don't get it. What are you talking about?“ Uneasiness was flaring up in her eyes, and he could see that she already knew the answer.
„About you,“ he answered silently. „You can do it!“
„No!“
„It's the only way I can think off. As much as I hate the thought of putting this burden on you. I am sorry.“
„No,“ Colleen whispered. „I am done with fighting. I don't want to get involved in all this again.“
A weak smile showed up on Danny's face. „You already are, and deep inside, you know. Too much is going on in New York; the peace is fragile.“ He grabbed for her hands, so cold and shaking, and he squeezed them gently. „The people will need a leader they can look up to, and this is better you than someone like Davos. You can inspire people to follow the right way.“
With tears in her eyes, she rested her head on his shoulder. „But what does this mean for us?“
He held her tight, well knowing the truth; maybe he had always known that it only could end like this. „There can't be an 'us' any longer. Not now. But maybe in another time, a different world. Because I will never stop loving you."
