„Hey, what are you doing here?“ Zeke dropped down onto the wooden bench of the bleachers. „The party is at other places.“
Casey let his eyes wander over the sports field and shrugged. „Not in the mood for a party.“
„You are finally free to go wherever you want. Finishing school as the second-best will open you the door to every College of your choice. So, what's the problem?“
„I guess I will miss all this.“
„Oh.“ Zeke smirked. „So you did enjoy ending at the flagpole every second morning?“
Casey laughed. „Maybe not this. But the art course with Mr. Brown; he always found a way to lift my spirits when a photo project didn't go like expected. Working for the school's magazine. Even if Deliah sometimes could be a pain in the ass. And... chemistry, I guess, I will miss chemistry, though it never was my favorite class.“
„Because Mr. Furlong is such a hot guy? Or because of sharing a lab table with me?“
„You shitass!“ Casey blushed slightly. „We did make a great team during the last months; you can't deny this.“
Zeke nodded. „Was a smart idea of Mr. Furlong, forcing us to work together. Without you, I would probably have fucked up graduation.“
„I don't think so,“ Casey protested. „You have a brilliant mind.“
„But sometimes it can be so much more fun not to use it.“
„That's bullshit!“ Obviously annoyed, Casey shook his head. „You should go to a college instead of wasting your time in Herrington. I just can't get it that you want to work in a garage.“
„Hm.“ Usually, Zeke didn't like it when other people tried to tell him how to live his life. But the idea suddenly crossing his mind was surprisingly tempting. „Where will you go to? Columbia? MIT?“
„Phototschool in San Francisco. It's one of the best and pretty difficult to get a scholarship. Mr. Brown used some of his connection to get me in there, so it would have been pretty stupid to say no.“
Zeke eyed him curiously. „You don't sound very existed because of this chance.“
„Well.“ Casey shrugged, looking uneasy. „More scared at the moment,“ he admitted. „I've never thought about it to go to the west coast. It's so far away from home, and I won't know anyone there.“
„Interested in a nice roommate?“
Casey blinked. „You have friends in San Francisco?“
„No! But I've heard that the city college there is not so bad. Maybe there is still a chance to get in there for the next semester.“
„But I won't find the time to visit courses at a college,“ Casey protested, not sure what to think about this strange suggestion. „Photoschool alone is demanding enough.“
„Stupid.“ Zeke grinned wide. „Think twice. Maybe you are right, and it's about time also for me finally to move one. Might be so much more fun to discover our new freedom together.“
