Smiling, Zeke stopped at the door sill, watching the two children sitting on a blanket in the middle of the room. He would never get enough of this sight. At first, Zeke had had reservations about Jason's reaction; since the day he did move in with them, it had only been him, and his two dads. A tight-knit family, ready to face all problems together. They had never thought about it, to adopt a second child, but when he had seen Marie for the first time, so small, of feeble health, lying on a dirty rag, he had known it. Like he had known it when he had met Jason for the first time.
He hadn't hesitated, knowing that Casey would agree, he had taken her home on the same evening. Zeke smiled at the memories of the moment he had entered their house with the baby carrier in his hands. And Jason had been the big brother from the very first moment, who would do all to protect his sister. All his concern had been in vain.
Right now, the little girl looked at her brother full of interest. „Bah,“ she cooed while reaching out for the stuffed bear, Jason held out to her. „Bahbah.“
He giggled. „No! It's a teddy. Can you say that? Teee-dddy. C'mon, it's not that difficult.“
Marie tilted her head; losing every interest in the teddy, she suddenly beamed all over her face and said: “Jay!“
„You can talk,“ Jason shouted with joy after recovering from the surprise. „You did say my name!“
„Her first word,“ Zeke agreed, smiling wide. „is the name of her big brother. Why am I not surprised? What do you think, should we call daddy to tell him?“
