„You can't escape your fate,“ Kreese said, his voice cold as ice.

Johnny eyed him in silence. A part of him still felt like the teenage boy he had been once; full of respect and awe for his sensei. The grown-up man though was finally able to see the truth. Following the strict rules of the Cobra Kai Dojo had ruined his life. And it had taken a long time, maybe too long, until he had been able to admit this.

Slowly he shook his head. „No way that I will ever go back there. Cobra Kai is history for me. It's about time, to go a different way.“

Kresse pulled his face, smirking wide. „Pussy!“

Johnny winced slightly but was able to hold eye contact. „Better to be called a pussy than a guy without honor.“

„Hey, what's wrong with you lately?“

„Sorry.“ Casey looked up from the test glass and shrugged, apologizing. „Too less sleep. I guess I was up until late after midnight.“

„Understand. Interesting photo project,“ Zeke asked.

And he noticed Casey hesitating before he finally nodded. „I'm afraid I got a bit too distracted.“

„Hm!“ Zeke narrowed his eyes slightly, then he shook the head. „No! I think that's not the reason for your behavior today. You might be able to fool your mom, but I'm not falling for your shit.“

„Oh." Casey huffed. „Since when you can read my mind? You are my shrink?“

„Let's say I'm a good observer. You don't sleep well for weeks. Since you did break with this bitch.“

„Don't be silly!“ Casey rolled his eyes. „That was the only right decision, and Del agrees with me. We are still friends.“

„Okay. So, what's the problem?“

„Zeke, you can be a real pain the ass.“

„Sorry,“ he chuckled. „So, spit it. You know, you can tell me everything.“

„Probably you will laugh about me; it's ridiculous.“ Nervously Casey licked his lips. „Do you think they are still here?“

For a moment, Zeke inwardly cringed; he knew instantly what Casey was talking about, and yes, a part of him wished that he wouldn't have asked. Even if he would never have admitted it, sometimes he still had nightmares about this horrible night, and only with a lot of booze and parties he was able to fight them. „You killed their queen, guess this means that all her followers are gone, too.“

„What if they are more adaptable than we thought? When they did find a way to survive?“

„Okay.“ Zeke could feel that he started to tremble now. „What do you know?“

„I never told anyone before. But when... when Marybeth died,“ Casey's voice was only a whisper now, „she spat all her larvas over me. It's only a blurred memory, but it is possible that some of them... managed it to creep into me.“ He breathed in deeply, but he forced himself to continue. „When I sleep, I can hear them in my head; I don't understand them, but I know what they want. They want me to be their new king.“

„Sounds like a nightmare,“ Zeke murmured, though he felt not very confident.

Casey shrugged. „Maybe. But it doesn't feel like one. It's fucking real, and it drives me crazy. You know, what will happen when they take total control over me. It will all start again."

Shit, shit, shit! Zeke cursed inwardly. No, he didn't want to get involved in this. And for sure he didn't want to think about it, what would happen when the aliens would take over Casey's body. But when he noticed the tears running over Casey's face, he forced himself to swallow his panic down. „Hey, no need to freak out. You are not alone, and whatever will happen, we will deal with it. We won't let it happen that some stupid aliens ruin our lives."

The relief in Casey's eyes told him that he had said the only right thing.
