„What's that,“ Casey asked suspiciously when Zeke pushed a big envelope over the lab table.
„Happy birthday, geek boy.“ The elder boy grinned wide.
Casey blinked surprised, well knowing that it didn't make any sense to ask where he did know this from. No one at school cared about his 18th birthday, nor did his parents. „Thank you,“ he murmured, slightly embarrassed. What else could he say?
„You can open it. Don't worry, I promise it's not a porn magazine. Though I admit, I've thought about it at first.“
Okay, he could read his mind, couldn't he? Casey huffed slightly and finally grabbed for the envelope. Again, what else could he do without making a complete idiot out of himself? He tore it open, pulled out a piece of paper... and cried out. „Holy shit!“
Some students turned around, stared at him for a short moment, finally only shrugged without caring about it. Zeke only grinned wide while Casey still was gasping for air. How long had he dreamed about visiting one of the photo workshops at the Art Academy at Cincinnati? But of course, it was much too expensive for his small pocket money; even if he had started to work for the comic shop at the mall at the weekends, it was barely enough for the photo stuff he would need for it.
He licked his dry lips; finally he shook his head. „That's... I can't accept this.“
„Why not?“
„Because it's too much. You can't pay for a photo workshop for me at one of the most exclusive art schools. Take it back!“
„Hm.“ Zeke eyed him for a while. „And what do you think I should do with it now?“
„You... you could sell it.“
„Sure.“ Zeke smirked. „Because there are so many photo geeks at Highschool. That's ridiculous, Casey; it would be only a waste of money if you don't accept the gift certificate. So, take it and have fun. I can see it in your eyes that this is what you want.“
Slightly blushing, Casey couldn't hide his smile any longer when he grabbed for the envelope again. Best birthday present ever, that was for sure. "Thank you," he whispered.
