Title: Dreams about a faraway universe
Characters: Casey Connor, mention of Zeke Tyler
Prompt: Picture - universe (Fill 1)
Word Count: 289
Finished: 14.05.2020
Thoughtfully Casey looked at the map hanging over his desk. A map of a faraway universe, the place of his neverending dreams. His life had never been easy; already in kindergarten, he had known that he was different than the other children. No one wanted to play with him; he was the loner, ignored, often teased, who didn't seem to fit in anywhere.
When he got older, he realized that even his parents were embarrassed about his behavior often enough, though he was smart, a straight-A student; only when it came to the gym, he failed miserably. Most of his free time he did spend alone in his room. And he discovered his love for astronomy and science.
A chance to escape his real life, to dream about a great future where everyone would respect him. One day he would go to college, MIT maybe, or CalTech. He would turn into a famous scientist who would change the world. He would discover the secrets of faraway stars, or he would be the leader of America's first Mars mission. Everything was possible as long as he did believe in it. One day he would show them all; his parents, the other students at school who bullied him every day, the girls who openly laughed about him.
Casey's eyes wandered from the universe's map to the photos lying on his desk. Zeke Tyler, the new guy at the school's football team. And his heartbeat quickened when he had to admit that maybe tonight be would not dream about a trip to faraway stars. A pair of hazelnut brown eyes and a smug smile had changed everything, had made him realize that there was more than just the endless universe.
