But this time, it had been different. The little girl involved in the case reminded her of Trixie, and the thought that something horrible like this could happen to her daughter, too, was too much.

Lucifer caught her in his arms when she swayed and finally broke down, holding her until she stopped shaking again.

Slightly embarrassed, she murmured: "Sorry, I don't know what... "

He smiled, surprisingly gentle. "Anytime again, detective. "

He had never regretted it to leave hell behind to live on earth. The LUX was his new, exciting home, full of everything he had missed for eons. Only sometimes, when he was all alone, he felt creepy loneliness sneaking into his mind.

Usually, a good glass of whiskey and the piano would help; not today though. His heart so heavy, his thoughts so dark that he could barely endure it. He was like a stranger, lost in a foreign land.

Her voice alone was able to make him smile again. „Detective! What can I do for you?“

It was a mistake; Chloe knew it the moment she took a seat beside Lucifer in front of the piano, to play a little song together with him. But never before she had seen him a such a sad and desolate state; usually, he drove her crazy with his smug behavior, as if he would own the world and all people living on it.

All she had wanted was to give him some comfort; now she was sitting beside him, much too close, she could smell his expensive aftershave and the whiskey in the glass he held in his hand; she could feel the heat radiating from his body, hotter than the fire burning in hell; her hands were trembling, and the heart was up to her mouth when he suddenly turned his head, sparkles in his dark eyes; she felt the urge to run, but he held her like under a spell, then he bent forward, and their lips met.

Then he had kissed Chloe. The only woman who had resisted his charm for so long. The thought of the one, fleetingly kiss made his heart flutter in a way he had never felt before. He wasn't sure if he did like this feeling, so intense, almost painful, so out of his control.

All night long he couldn't stop thinking about it, that tomorrow he would see her again, and maybe there was a chance for another kiss, or even more.
