„Markus?“ Worried Erin watched the young man, his head resting on his arms. „How are you doing?“
Reluctantly he looked up; he was pale, a large band-aid on his temple. „It was all in vain, all the hard work of weeks. I was so sure that bringing the leader of all groups together is the right way. But they'll never stop fighting each other.“ He sighed. „I'm afraid I've failed, Erin.“
Gently she put her hand on his arm. How much she loved him, though she knew, there was no chance for them; all Markus was living for was a better future for the world, like he had promised his dying father ages ago. It was hard to see him so broken.
„Think about the school and all the children living there. The good people on the farms nearby. Everyone in the Mountain. They need you now, maybe even more than before, because only you give them hope.“
Markus kept quiet for a while, finally he got up, placing his thumb on her cheek. „You are my angel who keeps me going, Erin.“
She smiled. „I will tell Kurdy, Jeremiah and Smith to come into your office for a talk.“
