Nicolas Rush was lying on his bed, putting the book down. The ticking clock in his head had almost reached its end. The end of his journey, the end of the Destiny, and all people stranded on the foreign spaceship. It would end in a fireball, and it would be a quick end.
Worst was the waiting for it. Tick... tick... tick... The knowledge that there was nothing that he could do against it. Knowing that most of the others did blame him for bringing them into this situation. He was the scientist with the most weird ideas no one could understand.
Well, maybe Eli. He was young, inexperienced, and curious. He had solved a problem Rush himself hadn't been able to. If he would get the chance to grow up, to learn, he could be one of the most significant scientists one day the world had ever seen.
Smarter than Rush was. And he was brilliant. Just not smart enough to save the Des...
He stopped thinking. Silence. The ticking clock had stopped. He was still here. The Destiny was still here. Everyone still alive. What had seemed impossible had happened. He grabbed his glasses, jumped up. Running through the hallways to the comment center. The burning planet so near. The Destiny still intact.
A wide grin turned on his face while turning to the control panels; his fingers flew over the keypad. Finally, he turned around to the colonel. „We will survive,“ he said.
