„Mom! Mommy!“ Noah's panic-ridden voice reached Olivia's ears; she forced her eyes open, breathing hard while trying to return to reality.
Noah sniffed. „Mommy. Are you okay? You were crying.“
Olivia had to close her eyes again, trembling all over. It had happened again. The nightmare was back. There was no escape from the tormenting memories, as hard as she tried.
She felt Noah's arms around her while he tried to hold her. „Baby,“ she murmured. „Oh, baby.“ This was not fair. He had suffered enough for a lifetime; he shouldn't be forced to see his mom in this desolate state.
„You okay?“
„ I am!“ Her voice still shaking, she held him tight. „Now I am!“
Sighing relieved, Noah rested his head on her shoulder, and while the little boy quickly drifted back into his sleep, Olivia made a vow. She would go to see Dr. Peter Lindstrom again. Tomorrow, she would make the long overdue appointment. As much as she hated to go to a psychologist, they asked too much and wanted to talk about her deepest secrets. It was much easier to go through the day and pretend nothing had happened. As if she was invulnerable. But she wasn't. Her nightmares told about her trauma every night.
And she knew it was about time to face the truth. If not for her, she owned Noah.
