Zeke entered Casey's small room and found the boy sitting on his bed, a small notebook in his hands. „Hey, what are you doing?“
Casey put the pen down, sighing. „Try to make a pro and con list of all the possibilities for my future. Everyone is sending out college applications, and I still don't know what to do. Mr. Brown thinks I should attend photo school in New York because everything else would waste my talent. Mr. Furlong told me this morning that he will write me a recommendation letter if I want to visit MIT or Columbia. My dad wants me to go to the school of design, he visited too, so that I can take over his office for architecture later. And my mom is okay with everything, as long as I don't have to move too far away from Herrington.“
Zeke smirked. „Understand. And, did you already come up with a decision?“
„To be honest, no!“ Casey shrugged. „I don't want to disappoint anyone. And I like photography as much as physics and math. It's all an incredible mess.“
„Oh, c'mon, stop playing the drama queen, it's not that complicated.“
Casey huffed. „You can't talk. But your grandma has left you enough money to open a garage. You don't have to worry about your future.“
„I am selling the garage.“
„You... what?“ Casey stared at his friend with his eyes wide open. „This can't be serious!“
„I have thought about it a lot lately. Everyone seems to move on; Stokes has already sold her first novel; Stan will go to the police academy in Colombus. Gabe has gotten the football scholarship at Notre Dame, and I heard this morning that bitchy Delilah will move to Chicago to visit a fashion college. I don't want to end here, in Herrington, feeling like a pathetic loser.“
„But what will you do instead of this? Where will you go to?“
„I don't have as much choice as you do. I didn't give anything about school for a much too long time. But I guess I can graduate. I can go to city college and see where the way will finally take me.“ His eyes sparkled, amused. „Did you know that Albert Einstein was a miserable student who even got an F in physics once?“
„Woah, you are always good for a surprise,“ Casey murmured.
Zeke chuckled. „If I can make it, you will make the right decision, too. Don't overthink all the pro and con; just follow your heart, and everything will be good.“
