„Why did you do that?“ Stokely's eyes sparkled wildly while he grabbed Stan's collar. „How could you dare it to kiss me in front of my whole family?“
The boy couldn't hide his amused grin, which made her even more angry. „No one wonders when a boy kisses his girlfriend,“ he said.
„Since when am I your girlfriend? We use to hang around now and then, but this doesn't mean anything at all.“
„So, and why did you ask me to keep you company on your grandma's birthday?“
„Because my stupid family thinks it's utterly odd when a highschool girl doesn't even consider dating a boy. My oh-so-cool cousin wouldn't have stopped bothering me until finally, I would have slapped him into his face to make him stop grinning like an idiot.“ She gasped for air. „And I would have ruined the day for my grandma. The last I want because she's the only one of my family I can respect.“
„Understand.“ Stan still smiled. „I'm only a fake friend today. The cool fake boyfriend, good looking, star player of a football team, you can show off.“
Stokely blinked. „This sounds so negative. I haven't intended to use you. Really, Stan, you... you are okay. It's just... I'm not making an idiot out of myself by hoping there could be more between us. The team captain of the Hornets dates the cheerleader queen, not the moody gothic girl.“
Stan eyed her up and down. „Well, I am here, right, not at Delilah's stupid beach party. And no one did force me. What do you think this is supposed to mean?“
„Dunno.“ It didn't often happen that Stokely looked uneasy. „Maybe even you finally got sick of her bitchy behavior?“
Stan laughed. „Let's say Deliah is Deliah; she will always think about herself first. Hanging around with you is much more fun. And I wouldn't mind deepening our relationship even more.“
„Deepen? How deepen?“
„Oh, c'mon.“ Stan stepped closer, „you can't be that slow on the uptake.“ He pressed his lips on hers, grabbing her shoulders to keep her from backing away until he felt her relaxing in his arms and answering the kiss.
Never he would have to play the fake boyfriend again.
