The Faculty - Written for FFFC, Ficlet Zone and Creative Challenges - AU
Title: Marie
Character: Casey Connor, Zeke Tyler
Challenge: Bingo - baby (FFFC), love (ficlet zone), adoption (creative challenges)
Word Count: 354
Finished: 23.03.2021
Note: This story is part of my 'Homeland' universe, where Casey and Zeke are married and have adopted a little boy / two children. All stories can be read as a stand-alone ones.
:::
Zeke sneaked into the room, watching Casey sitting at their son's bed. The little boy had closed his eyes, still a sappy smile on his face. „So, he's finally asleep,“ he whispered.
Casey shut the book and placed it onto the nightstand. „Lasted only some minutes today; he was pretty tired after the day with my parents. My dad did build a treehouse with him.“
Zeke chuckled. „They spoil him too much.“
„That's the right of grandparents. Especially when they had already given up hope ever to have some.“
After turning the light down, Zeke followed Casey into the livingroom. Dropping down onto the couch, he said: “Adopting Jason was a good decision, wasn't it?“
„The best one,“ Casey agreed. „He has turned our life around but in a good way.“
„Have you ever thought about a second baby?“
„Hmm?“ Casey glanced at his husband and grinned. „Okay, spit it. What are you thinking about?“
„Her name is Marie. Six months old. She has had a pretty rough start in life. Her mom drug-addicted, works as a prostitute since she is fourteen. Father unknown, of course. I did my best to help her, but some days after giving birth, she vanished.“
„Kinda sad.“
Zeke sighed. „Always the same story, so often these kids are not able to accept help. But Marie...“
He smiled. „She is a sunshine. Though her first months were so hard; first, we weren't even sure if she would make it. But she's a fighter.
Yesterday the doc told me that despite some issues, she's stable enough now to move into a foster home.“
„Understand. Guess we will have to do some shopping tomorrow, make the guest room more homely for a little girl. Paint the walls in a light green or yellow. Maybe I could ask my mom to make some fitting curtains for the windows. And...“
Zeke laughed. „So, you don't mind if we take her home?“
„Tiny little feet tripping through the house again? For sure not! And Jason will be a proud big brother for her.“
Placing a kiss on his cheek, Zeke murmured: „I love you!“
